6 Immunity Boosters to Add to Your Drink

by Yajush Sharma

What’s better than drinking your favorite drink? Drinking your favorite drink, guilt-free! Flu season is coming up and who knows when we’ll be out of this Covid-19 nightmare. It is times like this where it is especially important to be mindful of our health and do as much as we could to keep up our nutrition. Below are six immunity boosters to add to your favorite drink!

Fresh, powdered, juiced or candied, this anti-inflammatory ingredient can be coupled with fruit (i.e. orange juice, pineapple juice, etc) and a splash of lemon to create a healthy spin on your classic Gin and Tonic or Vodka and Soda.

2. Turmeric

A very well-known immunity-boosting ingredient, the curcumin naturally found in turmeric is anti-inflammatory and enhances the body's antioxidant capacity. Due to this roots distinct flavor, it is best to hide the taste in something already strong in flavor such as an Espresso Martini!

3. Carrots

Potassium, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, C, K, and B-6, the list of benefits goes on and on. If you’re not a carrot juice kind of gal.. we’ll be honest.. there is not much way around masking the flavor. However, try pairing it with some citrus vodka, ginger beer, and orange juice to mellow out the carrot flavor and you might just have a new favorite!

4. Lemon

Packed with Vitamin C, lemon juice goes well with just about every spirit. Whether you choose to mix it in with your vodka, gin, or whiskey, just be sure it is freshly squeezed! You won’t catch us using the bottled stuff.

5. Honey

Containing antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties, not only does it sweeten your drink but it also removes free radicals from the body! This immunity booster can be used as a replacement anytime a cocktail calls for simple syrup or agave syrup.

Bonus tip: Use as the binder for the salted rim of your glassware for a pop of sweetness when making margaritas!

Use the powdered version or impress your guests with a fancy cinnamon stick, this spice is anti-inflammatory and has many antioxidant benefits. Sprinkle over your dark, warmer liquors or, even better, mix it in with milk-based liqueurs such as Kahlua or Baileys. Either way, this unexpected twist won’t be a bad one.

Bonus tip: Power couple with honey to double up on the immunity!

Infusing spices, herbs, or fresh-pressed and squeezed juices will not only add immunity-boosting benefits but will also ensure your cocktails taste refreshing and homemade! Don’t forget the power of juicing fresh fruit such as watermelon, grapefruit, pineapple and so many more to pack a powerful, nutrient-dense element to your cocktails! It is a practically full-proof path to tasty drinking.
