Coffee Cocktails to Keep You Warm During the Winter

by Liquor Wine Time

“Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.”? Alex Levine.

Brrr….! It’s freezing outside. Jack Frost has covered the ground with a thick blanket of icy white snow while brother December is on a drunken rampage. The weather is crippling, and full of frozen finger-like icicles.

Yet there is some warm cheer despite inflictions of the chill. Wherever you turn, the expectation of Christmas is running high. But, of course, there’s the pandemic to think of.

We believe there’s nothing to beat the pandemic blues better than a cocktail. And nothing feels better on cold winter nights than a mug of hot coffee. So, we took the two and came up with some coffee cocktails to keep you warm during winter.

Try your hand in making these delightfully warm coffee and alcohol cocktails before winter turns to spring.

1. Warm Irish Coffee

Like alcoholic tea, we have this boozified version of coffee. The drink is refreshing, with a little bit of Irish whiskey added to it. And it is guaranteed to keep you up at night as you ring in the festivities with your family.

  • 2 oz Irish Whiskey
  • 2 tsp hot water
  • 3 oz warm brew coffee
  • 2 tsp demerara sugar
  • 1 tsp ground espresso
  • Fresh cream

  • Mix the whiskey and the espresso in a bowl.
  • Let it stand for 15 minutes.
  • Using a coffee filter, strain it through into a cocktail shaker.
  • Stir the sugar into hot water until it dissolves, then add to the shaker.
  • Shake and serve in a glass.
  • Top with cream.

2. Espresso Martini

Bitter coffee mixed with vodka creates this simple yet classic sip that has thousands of coffee lovers coming back for more. The color is rich and earthy, and its taste is divine. Open up your senses to this heavenly cocktail—the Espresso Martini.

  • 3 oz vodka
  • 1 ½ oz freshly brewed espresso coffee
  • 1 ½ oz Kahlua
  • 1 tbsp of sugar syrup

  • Chill two martini glasses in the fridge.
  • Put the sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker.
  • Add the vodka, the espresso, and the Kahlua.
  • Shake well.
  • Strain into the chilled martini glass.

3. Turkish Coffee Sour

They had to go and take two of our favorites and mix them up. When it comes to coffee, no one does it better than the Turkish, and as for the “sour”, we have to thank the Angostura bitters. Enjoy this interesting cocktail whenever you get the time.

  • 2 ½ oz spiced rum
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • 5 cardamom pods bruised
  • Strip of lemon peel for garnish
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Egg whites from 2 eggs
  • Angostura bitters
  • 2 tbsp. ground coffee

  • In a pot of boiling water, put the ground coffee, cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon stick and bring to a boil.
  • Strain through a sieve and allow it to cool.
  • To the cocktail shaker, add water, spiced rum, egg white, and lemon juice.
  • Shake hard.
  • Strain into martini glasses.
  • Garnish with lemon peel and Angostura bitters.

4. Italian Coffee

In Italy, coffee is not merely a drink, it is almost like a religion. Italians love coffee, so do we, and the alcohol only adds to the merry marriage of beverages.

Here’s a recipe for a lovely alcoholic Italian coffee -

  • 5 oz hot coffee
  • ½ oz Strega
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 ½ oz whipped cream
  • Nutmeg to garnish

  • Pour coffee and Stega into a hot Irish coffee glass.
  • Add the sugar.
  • Pour over the cream on top.
  • Sprinkle the nutmeg.

5. Paradise Found

John Milton would have hardly expected his famous poem “Paradise Lost” to be altered for an equally famous cocktail, but here it is —the Paradise Found. If coconut trees, sand, and beaches are your idea of paradise, this delectable cocktail will transport you there with its clean coffee taste.

  • 6 oz hot coffee
  • 1 oz spiced rum
  • 1 oz butterscotch schnapps
  • Sugar
  • Cream

  • Add the rum and butterscotch schnapps to the hot coffee.
  • Mix in a little cream and sugar.
  • Stir everything into a glass with a few ice cubes.
  • Serve with whipped cream and coffee beans as a garnish.

With these warm and toasty drinks, you are such to get your requisite caffeine and alcohol dose all in one glass.

Mix and drink up!

Cheers to the good life and what may come next!
