Try Out these Bourbon Cocktail Recipes to Revel in the Festivities!

by Yajush Sharma

An American classic—bourbon is a close cousin of whiskey. Made from corn mash, the best quality bourbon must be aged at least two years. The best-known bourbon whiskey is made in the state of Kentucky and is typically devoid of added flavors. Because of its unique one-note taste, bourbon can easily be blended into a variety of palate-teasing cocktails. While there may be hints of oak, vanilla, or caramel, these do not account for the smoothness that ultimately strikes your taste buds. Some of the favorite cocktails made from bourbon whiskey include the Libertine, Mint Julep, Hot Toddy, and many more!

Let’s show you how to mix some of these classic recipes should you want to try them out.

The Libertine

The Libertine is a lovely pale yellow drink with tinges of fruity bursts. Bourbon liquor is the potion around which it is slowly crafted. It makes for a very curious sip because of the combination of sour and sweet. Quite a lovely drink for a ladies’ night out!

  • Fresh rosemary (2 sprigs)
  • Simple syrup (2 fl. oz.)
  • Bourbon (4 fl. oz)
  • Fresh lemon juice (2 fl. oz)
  • Maple syrup (1 tablespoon)
  • Orange marmalade (2 teaspoons)
  • Fresh orange juice (1 tablespoon)
  • White of an egg (1 egg)

  • In a saucepan boil simple syrup and rosemary.
  • Let it cool down to normal temperature.
  • Separate the syrup from the rosemary using a strainer.
  • Put the syrup in a shaker with marmalade, bourbon, and lemon juice.
  • Include the ice and mix well.
  • Now pour the libation into a glass. Top it off with some ice.
  • Add orange juice, maple syrup, and egg white together into the shaker.
  • Shake until the mixture turns frothy and then pour it over.
  • Use a sprig of rosemary to garnish.

Hot Toddy

This potion of bourbon and honey, with lemon juice combined, is an adequate cure for colds. Enjoy it on a cold winter’s day or sip it when the autumn blues get to you.

  • Bourbon (2 oz.)
  • Honey (1 oz.)
  • Lemon juice (1 oz.)
  • Tiki bitters (4 dashes optional)
  • 1 Teabag

  • Fill a teapot with water and put it in on a boil.
  • Dip the tea bag in the water and watch it seep its flavors in it.
  • To a mug, add tiki bitters, lemon juice, honey, and bourbon. Stir the mixture.
  • You can either serve it up in tall glasses with spoons or leave the pot with tea on the side.
  • To finish off, pour the tea over the bourbon and stir. Down a glass. Cheers! The drink can even be medicinal for a congested chest.

Mint Julep

A drink that brings out the best of Kentucky bourbon whiskey, Mint Julep has a refreshing aftertaste and strikes at the finer points of the palate.

  • Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey (3 oz.)
  • Mint leaves (5-6 of very tender variety)
  • Sugar (I teaspoon)

  • Put a pewter cup in the freezer for at least half an hour.
  • Take it out and then place the mint leaves at the bottom.
  • In a muddler add some sugar and crush it.
  • Next, the pewter glass should be filled with fresh cracked ice.
  • Drop around 3 ounces of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey over the ice.
  • Stir with alacrity until the pewter glass frosts.
  • Put more ice
  • Mix again before serving.

Pro Tip-The glass should really be pre-chilled and don’t handle it with your hands because the frost might not form. This really cool drink is perfect for summer nights.

Whiskey Sour

As the name suggests, the drink is a sour treat to clear the taste buds. The egg white adds some velvety creaminess to the drink’s tartness. If you are someone who enjoys the sourness give this drink a try because it’s quite easy to make and simple enough to try out at home.

  • Bourbon (2 oz.)
  • Lemon Juice (2/3 oz.)
  • Superfine sugar or caster sugar (1 teaspoon)
  • Half of an egg white

  • In a shaker add the bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, superfine sugar, and egg white.
  • Mix well. Strain the mix into a cocktail glass that is already chilled.
  • For a garnish use a maraschino cherry with a lemon wedge.

So no matter how you like your bourbon liquor, whether neat or on the rocks, try it in a variety of cocktails. They will be sure to tease your senses of sight and taste, and do wonders for your soul.
